Pearl was planted in the spring of 2002. We achieved our first crop in 2005. Pearl has been Biodynamically farmed since 2000. Located in the Red Hills of Dundee the vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir on Jory soil. The five acre vineyard sits on a 10 acre farm that grows olives, apples, walnuts, plums, cherries and various other berries and fruits. To increase complexity and depth of flavor we planted 18 different rootstock and clone combination designed to all be fermented together. The vineyard sits between 300 – 500 feet in elevation and slopes mainly south although a portion slopes off to the west. There are three distinct sites within this small vineyard, basically varying amounts of topsoil and fractured Basalt. Each block is planted with a rootstock that will help the vine prosper in their unique situation.
